Giving Back to the community

At Tundra, through the Richardson Foundation, we are committed to giving back to the communities where we live and work.

Increasing Community access

A significant number of Tundra employees live in the communities where we operate.

For many small towns, life in the winter is centered around the ice rink where families and friends gather for sports events and other group activities. Some of these local structures require much-needed maintenance work and improvements to reduce the environmental impact of their operations. Tundra contributes to the upkeep of these community pillars on a regular basis. In 2024, the Birtle & District Community Centre, McAuley Community Association, and the Maryfield Recreation Board received funding through the Richardson Foundation to make structural and safety improvements, purchase new equipment, and upgrade outdated systems.

Throughout the year, many in the community also gather to partake in outdoor activities in places like the Reston Golf Course or the Gainsborough Swimming Pool. Tundra is proud to have provided support to both facilities.

In addition to larger investments through the Richardson Foundation, Tundra provides direct sponsorship funding for many local organizations and institutions, including the Virden Oil Caps and Estevan Bruins, members of the Manitoba and Saskatchewan Junior Hockey Leagues.

Participation in the Visual & Performing Arts

Virden, home for many Tundra employees, has a remarkably strong theatre community, and a close-knit group who put on the theatre productions at the beloved theatre they perform in. The Aud, a historically designated opera house built in 1911, was showing its age after more than a century of theatre, song and dance. Tundra’s donation, made possible by the Richardson Foundation, enabled a second act with the restoration of century-old seating at Virden’s signature venue to improve access to this cultural hub.

Environmental Awareness

Tundra began its partnership with the Souris River Watershed District (SRWD) in 2007. Since then, thousands of youth and adults have benefited from environmental educational programs made possible by Tundra's annual donation. The SRWD works directly with schools, daycares, and nursery schools within their district, many within Tundra’s operating areas.

United Way

Tundra conducts an annual fundraising campaign for United Way, with each location (Winnipeg, Calgary, Estevan & Virden) participating to raise funds that remain in the community to support local programming and at-risk populations. Donations are generously matched by the Richardson Foundation.
